Francesco Morano

Francesco Cardinal Morano ( born June 8, 1872 in Caivano, Naples Province, Italy, † July 12, 1968 at the Vatican ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Francesco Morano completed his theological, philosophical and scientific studies in Aversa and Rome from with doctorates in philosophy, Catholic theology, canon law, civil law and physics.

He received on 10 August 1897, the sacrament of Holy Orders and, after further studies in 1900 as an assistant at the Vatican Observatory. From 1903 to 1925 he stood as an administrative employee in the service of the Curia.

Pope Benedict XV. gave Francesco Morano 1918 the title of Pontifical secret chamberlain and appointed him in 1921 to clerk of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature. Pope Pius XI. conferred on him in 1935 the Office of the Secretary at the Apostolic Signatura Supreme Court.

Pope John XXIII. took him on 14 December 1959 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santi Cosma e Damiano in the College of Cardinals on and donated it in 1962 on his appointment as Titular Archbishop of Fallaba episcopal ordination. Francesco Morano took part in the conclave of 1963 and the Second Vatican Council.

He died on 12 July 1968, 96 years in the Vatican and was buried in Aversa. At this time he was the oldest cardinal of the world.
