Francesco Moriero

Francesco Tranquillo Moriero ( born March 31, 1969 in Lecce, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach.

During his playing days Moriero was considered fast, technically strong right winger.

Playing career

In the club

Francesco Moriero began his football career at the club of his hometown of Lecce, for which he gave 1986/87 be Series B debut. The following season he was with not even 20 years already regular in the trained by Carlo Mazzone Apulian team behind FC Bologna managed by rank two move up to the Serie A. In the 1988/89 season Moriero debuted for the Giallorossi in Italy's top flight in which you could hold on until 1991.

In the summer of 1992, Francesco Moriero joined the Sardinian club Cagliari Calcio, where he stood two seasons under contract and his European Cup debut. From 1994 to 1997, the midfielder played for the capital club AS Roma.

In May 1997, Francesco Moriero signed a contract with AC Milan. In July of the same year he went, however, without ever having played one game for Milan, to local rivals Inter. His transfer was in exchange with André Cruz, who possessed a pre-contract with the Nerazzurri and had also never played for them for a symbolic price of one million lire instead. In his first season Moriero completed 28 Serie A games in which he scored three goals, and won with the trained by Luigi Simoni after the team's 3-0 final victory against Lazio in the UEFA Cup. In the following two seasons, the midfielder played only a total of 28 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri.

In 2000 Francesco Moriero moved to Napoli, for, he completed 24 games in Serie A and Serie B, before he ended his active career at the end of the 2001/02 season.

In the National Team

Francesco Moriero debuted on 28 January 1998 in a 3-0 win over Slovakia under Cesare Maldini in the Italian national team. In the same year he was in Maldini's squad for the World Cup in France, where he completed four games and pushed forward with the Azzurri to the quarterfinals, where the hosts and eventual champions France was defeated with 3:4 after penalty shoot-out.

The last of his eight caps for Italy midfielder completed on 9 October 1999 in a 0-0 draw in Belarus. His only two goals for the Azzurri scored Moriero on 22 April 1998 in a 3-1 win against Paraguay.

Coaching career

Francesco Morieros first stop as head coach was the Ivorian club Africa Sports National, which he has edited from 2006 to 2007. After his return to Italy, coached the 2007/08 SS Virtus Lanciano and 2008/ 09 FC Crotone, with the he managed to climb into the B series.

On 24 June 2009 Moriero was introduced as manager of Frosinone Calcio. After the club finished bottom of the table spaces to the end of the season, Moriero was removed from his post on 25 April 2010 and replaced by Guido Carboni. With two points ahead of the play-out ranks Frosinone finally succeeded under his successor, the League receipt. After the sacking of Luigi Apolloni Moriero was introduced as the new coach at U.S. Grosseto in September 2010. On 13 January 2011, he was dismissed in Grosseto.

As of September 27, 2011 trained Francesco Morriero the Swiss Challenge League side FC Lugano. In June 2012, his return to the Italian second division side U.S. Grosseto was announced, with whom he signed a one-year contract. In early October 2012, he was made redundant at the Tuscans and replaced by Mario Somma as head coach. Both Somma and his successors Lamberto Magrini and Leonardo Menichini failed on the sidelines of the Tuscan team from the cellar table of series B to complete it, so Moriero was appointed again to the head coach of the U.S. Grosseto in February 2013. For the 2013/14 season he returned as coach for his hometown club U.S. Lecce, but was released after four games without a win early in the season already on 24 September 2013.
