Francesco Pisani

Francesco Pisani (* 1494 in Venice, † June 28, 1570 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Pisani was appointed on 1 July 1517 by Pope Leo X in his fifth consistory cardinal. He was assigned the titular church of San Marco. In 1524 he was appointed Bishop of Padua and was ordained in 1527. This office he held until 1567. In the years 1555 and 1557 appointments bishop followed in Albano and Frascati. In 1562 he became bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina, and finally Bishop of Ostia. Pisani was 1564-1570 Dean of the College of Cardinals. He left the Villa dei Vescovi in Torreglia to a design Giovanni Maria Falco Netto (1468-1532) run. He commissioned Andrea Palladio to build the Villa Pisani in Montagnana. He was a patron of the arts and promoted particularly the painter Paolo Veronese and Giambattista Maganza, and the sculptor Alessandro Vittoria. He gave the order for the Veronese copy of the altarpiece Transfiguration of Christ for the high altar of the cathedral of Montagnana ( 1555/6 ). His statue ( No. 70) is near the Basilica of Santa Giustina in the inner ring on the Prato della Valle in Padua, by the will of Alvise and Francesco Pisani.
