Franchot Tone

Stanislas Pascal Franchot Tone (* February 27, 1905 in Niagara Falls, New York, USA, † September 18, 1968 in New York City, USA) was an American film actor.

Life

Franchot Tone was born into a wealthy family. Already during his studies at Cornell University, he took acting lessons. In 1932 he went to Hollywood, where MGM was under contract. Among his most famous roles was the appearance in Mutiny on the Bounty, for which he received an Oscar nomination as best actor.

Tone was married among others, Joan Crawford, with which he shot several films together. In the 1950s, he left Hollywood and went to Broadway.
