Franci Petek

Franci Petek ( born June 15, 1971 in Lesce ) is a former Slovenian- Yugoslavian ski jumper.

Career

At the Junior World Championship 1989 in Vang, which also was his first international tournament, he reached the second place and thus the silver medal with the Yugoslav team. On December 28, 1989 he gave his debut in Oberstdorf in Ski Jumping World Cup. On February 11, 1990, he won his first and only World Cup competition in Engelberg. In the Ski Flying World Championships 1990 in Vikersund Petek flew to 22nd position. In the same year he won the team bronze at the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso. In 1991 he won at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Italy Predazzo the gold medal in the large hill. In the Four Hills Tournament 1991/92 he reached the fourth place, the best result in the overall standings in his career. At the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992 Petek jumped on the normal hill on the 21th and on the large hill on the 8th Place. With his teammates Samo Gostisa, Matjaž Zupan and Primoz Kopač he was in the team competition at the end of sixth. Two years later he jumped again at the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer and came from the large hill on the 38th.

After the 1994/95 season, he ended his active ski jumping career.
