Francis Burt

Francis Theodore Page Burt ( born June 14, 1918September 8, 2004 ) was an Australian lawyer and politician. He was chief judge from 1977 to 1988 in Western Australia and from 1990 to 1993 governor of that state.

Life

Burt attended Guildford Grammar School and studied at the University of Western Australia later. During the Second World War he served in the Navy and Air Force of the Australian Defence Forces, the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. In 1941, Burt was approved by the Chamber as a judge and henceforth worked in this profession.

Policy

Burt was appointed in 1969 a judge of the Supreme Court in Western Australia. He remained in this position until 1977 when he was appointed chief judge of the Supreme Court, a post he retained until 1988, when he resigned. Also since 1977, he was Deputy Governor of the State of Western Australia. After the death of governors Gordon Reid on October 26, 1989 Burt was determined to succeed, what he actually was from 1990. It was only in 1993, he also left this office. When he died in 2004 he was given a state funeral.
