Francis Carr (District of Maine politician)

Francis Carr ( born December 6, 1751 Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, † October 6, 1821 in Bangor, Maine ) was an American politician. In the years 1812 and 1813, he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Francis Carr attended the public schools of his home and was then engaged in trade. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1791 and 1808 he was several times delegate in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts. In the years 1809-1811 he was a member of the State Senate. He was a member of the Democratic- Republican Party.

Following the resignation of Mr Barzillai Gannett Carr was at the due election for the 17th seat from Massachusetts as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on April 6, 1812. Since he has not been confirmed at the regular congressional elections of 1812, he could only finish the current term in Congress until March 3, 1813. This period was marked by the events of the British - American War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Francis Carr again worked in retail. He died on October 6, 1821 in Bangor. His son James (1777-1818) was also a congressman.
