Francis Ford (actor)

Francis Ford ( born August 14, 1881, in Portland ( Maine), Maine, † September 5, 1953 in Los Angeles, California; actually Frank Thomas Feeney ) was an American film actor, screenwriter and director. He was the older brother of film director John Ford

Life

Francis Ford acted in over 400 films, mainly in the western genre. In the early silent film era, he was one of the most prestigious Western performer. (He had a small role in 1941 in the Custer saga His last command of Raoul Walsh) He played in 1912 in the film Custer 's Last Fight of the director Thomas Harper Ince the main character of General Custer. With director Ince had become mainly active as a producer, Francis Ford took over the direction duties for the brought out of Ince western movies.

In the later sound films of his younger brother John Francis Ford is usually represented in supporting roles. One of his best known sound film roles was his contribution to the film- historical importance, the emergence time in 1943 but little successful Western The Ox -Bow by William A. Wellman.
