Francis Howard, 5th Baron Howard of Effingham

Francis Howard, 5th Baron Howard of Effingham (* September 1643, † March 30, 1695 ) was an English nobleman and politician.

Biography

Francis Howard was in September of 1643, exact date unknown, born and baptized on September 17, 1743. He was the cousin of the 4th Baron Howard of Effingham and 3rd Earl of Nottingham and its nearest male agnate as the grandson of a brother of the 2nd Baron and 1st Earl of Nottingham.

Francis Howard was politically a supporter of the Whig party. He inherited the title of Baron Howard of Effingham in 1681 with the death took place of his cousin, the fourth Baron, during which title became extinct as 3rd Earl of Nottingham absence of a direct male heir. Francis Howard took the English crown from 1683 as governor of the colony of Virginia, which at that time not only the present-day American state of Virginia included, but also the territories of present-day states of West Virginia, North and South Carolina. His inherited the title of 5th Baron Howard of Effingham seat in the House of Lords he was therefore able to compete only on May 3, 1689 during a visit to England, because he bebekleidete the Office of the Governor of the English colony of Virginia in America 1683-1693.

Francis Howard was married twice. In 1673 he had taken Philadelphia Pelham ( 1654-1683 ) for his wife. After her death he married in 1689 Susan Felton during his stay in England. Two years after his return to England he died on March 30, 1695 and was buried at Lingfield. His widow survived him long and only died on December 11, 1726
