Francis Lawrence Jobin

Francis Lawrence Jobin ( born August 14, 1914 in Winnipeg, † August 25, 1995 ) was a Canadian politician. From 1976 to 1981 he acted as vice- governor of the province of Manitoba.

Biography

Jobin grew up in Winnipeg and Regina. After studying at the University of Manitoba in 1935 he settled down in Flin Flon. There he was employed by the Hudson 's Bay Company ( HBC) as miners and surveyors. Later he worked in the purchasing department of the local HBC store and organized the first union of this city.

1949 candidate Jobin on the part of the Manitoba Liberal Party in elections to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and was successful in the election district of The Pas. For ten years he was a deputy in the provincial legislature from 1956 to 1958 he was as Commerce and Industry Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Douglas Lloyd Campbell. Jobin was voted out in 1959, two years later, he ran unsuccessfully for the party presidency. At the general election in 1962, he joined Churchill for the Liberal Party of Canada, he was unsuccessful again.

From 1966 to 1976 Jobin was a member of the City Council of Flin Flon, the last three years as mayor. Governor General Jules Léger sworn him on 15 March 1976 as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. This representative office he held until October 23, 1981.
