Francis Lightfoot Lee

Francis Lightfoot Lee ( born October 4, 1734 Straftford, Virginia; † January 11, 1797 in Menoken, Virginia) Virginia signed the Declaration of Independence of the United States, making it one of America's founding fathers.

Lee received a very good private education. In 1758 he was elected to the House of Representatives of Virginia, where he remained in office until 1775. He was a radical supporter of the independence movement. On the side of Patrick Henry, he fought against the Stamp Act. He called 1774 a general conference and a convention for Virginia, where he took part. He was a delegate to the First Continental Congress, where he remained in office until 1779. Until his retirement he was a member of the Senate of Virginia.

Lee was a brother of Arthur Lee, Richard Henry Lee and William Lee.
