Francis Patrick Carney

Francis Patrick Carney ( born September 20, 1846 County Fermanagh, Ireland, † May 4, 1902 in Ouray, Colorado ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Colorado.

Career

In 1859 Francis Carney came with his family from his native Northern Ireland to New York City. In 1877 he moved on to Ouray in Colorado, where he worked as a construction worker, and in mining and established trade unions. Politically, he joined the Populist Party on. Between 1893 and 1895 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Colorado; 1895 to 1899 he was a member of the State Senate.

Carney was elected in 1898 on the side of Charles Spalding Thomas Vice Governor of the State of Colorado. This post he held 1899-1901. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor Francis Carney suffered from health problems. He died on 4 May 1902 in Ouray.
