Francis Tyler
Francis William Tyler ( born December 11, 1904 in Lake Placid, New York, † April 11, 1956 ) was an American bob pilot.
By profession, Tyler was first policeman, and he later worked as an insurance appraiser. He participated in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where he finished sixth in the four-man event. In 1941 he won at the AAU championships in four-man; this remained his only national title. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he won the four-man bobsleigh gold medal.
Tyler made advertising for Camel cigarettes, so in 1952 he lost his amateur status and was no longer allowed to start. However, he remained still connected as a coach the Bobs. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1956, he was the team manager, but fell ill with a severe flu and died of a heart attack just two months later.
His younger brother, Arthur Tyler was also bobsledder.
