Francis Tyler

Francis William Tyler ( born December 11, 1904 in Lake Placid, New York, † April 11, 1956 ) was an American bob pilot.

By profession, Tyler was first policeman, and he later worked as an insurance appraiser. He participated in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where he finished sixth in the four-man event. In 1941 he won at the AAU championships in four-man; this remained his only national title. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he won the four-man bobsleigh gold medal.

Tyler made ​​advertising for Camel cigarettes, so in 1952 he lost his amateur status and was no longer allowed to start. However, he remained still connected as a coach the Bobs. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1956, he was the team manager, but fell ill with a severe flu and died of a heart attack just two months later.

His younger brother, Arthur Tyler was also bobsledder.
