Francis V, Duke of Modena

Franz Ferdinand V. Geminian ( born June 1, 1819 in Modena, † November 20, 1875 in Vienna) was Archduke of Austria from the line Austria -Este and 1846-1859, the last reigning Duke of Modena.

Life

He was the son of Francis IV from the sideline Austria -Este of the House of Habsburg- Lorraine. He was educated by the Jesuits, and after his father's death in 1846 the Duke of Modena. Francis V. was a descendant of the Stuarts. He was looked upon by the Jacobites after the death of his mother Maria Beatrice of Savoy as the holder of the British throne, and designated by them as Francis I, King of England, Scotland, Ireland and France. However, he has never claimed this title publicly. His position as heir to the House of Stuart went over to his niece Marie Therese of Austria -Este.
