Franciscan Church of the Annunciation

The Annunciation Church ( Slovenian: Cerkev Marijinega oznanjenja ) or Franciscan Church ( Franciskanska cerkev ) is located on the Preseren Square in Ljubljana ( Ljubljana ) and was built in 1646-1660. The façade rises dominant over the main square and the opposite "Three Bridges" ( Tromostovje ) and makes the church so that one of the distinctive emblem of Ljubljana.

The early Baroque building consists of the nave and two aisles. After many of the original frescoes were destroyed in the earthquake of 1895, the Impressionist Matej Sternen was commissioned to redesign.

Located in close proximity to the Franciscan monastery, which was founded in the 13th century, houses a substantial library with incunabula and medieval manuscripts.
