Francisco Guterres

Francisco County Louth - Olo Guterres ( born September 7, 1954 in Ossu, Viqueque district ) is the chairman of FRETILIN, the largest party of East Timor. From 2001 to 2012, he was a member of the national parliament.

Life

Guterres visited from 1963 to 1969, the St. Terezinha School of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Ossu. In 1969 he moved to the School of Dili. In 1973, he came back for one year after Ossu as a supervisor of his former school. In 1974 he continued his studies in Dili.

Guterres joined in 1975 the independence movement Associação Social Democrática Timorense ASDT, which later became FRETILIN at. When the Indonesians invaded East Timor in December of the same year, is Guterres joined the armed resistance and fought first in Ossu under the command of Lino Olokassa. By 1999, Guterres took various items and commands for the FRETILIN and its military arm Falintil. In 1976, he was after the capture of Francisco da Silva succeeded him as FRETILIN Secretary for the eastern coastal region in Mate Bian, 1978 delegated to the Commissioner Ponte Leste and 1984 National Political Commissar. 1987 left the party leader Xanana Gusmão FRETILIN to politically neutral to assume the chairmanship of the new umbrella organization for all parties independence of East Timor, the Conselho Nacional de Resistência Maubere CNRM, later CNRT. Following the resignation of Indonesian dictator Suharto, a FRETILIN Congress in Sydney in August Guterres intended for general coordinator of the Presidential Council of FRETILIN, which is now the highest office in the party. In 1998, the CNRT Guterres took office as Secretary for Political Affairs and member of the National Political Council and Political-Military Council. In early 1999 Guterres hid in a house of FRETILIN in Dili. Because the Indonesian army was very active, but he then went to Uai - Mori. On 15 July 2001, he was elected with 89 % as Chairman of the Party (re- election in May 2006 and August 2011), two months later, as Chairman of the Constituent Assembly of East Timor. After the final independence of the country on 20 May 2002, at midnight Guterres read out the declaration of the restoration of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, located in the National Parliament, turning this around, and Guterres was elected President of Parliament. He held until the first meeting of the new Parliament after the elections of 30 June 2007, this office. He was succeeded by Fernando de Araújo of the Partido Democrático. 2007 and 2012 ran Guterres again for the National Parliament of East Timor on the first list position of FRETILIN. Despite his entry into Parliament, he not stepped up to the deputy seat.

In the elections for President on 9 April 2007 Guterres went to the FRETILIN. In the first round he was able to unite with 27.89 %, the highest number of votes. In the runoff election on May 9, however, he lost to the outgoing Prime Minister José Ramos -Horta with 31% against 69 % of the vote. In the 2012 presidential election on March 17, Guterres met again as a candidate of the FRETILIN and once again took first place without an absolute majority with 28.76 %. In the runoff Guterres met on 16 April against the Taur Matan Ruak second place, lost this but clear.

Since 2005, Guterres studied law in a program of the Foundation of Portuguese Universities ( FUP). His admission to the bar he was to receive in April 2012.

Family

Francisco Guterres is the sixth of eight children of Felix and Elda Guterres da Costa Guterres. Francisco has three brothers and four sisters.

Guterres first wife Clotilde Maria de Fatima was killed on November 15, 1981 at Builo by the Indonesians. Only after the independence of East Timor married Guterres on 4 May 2002, his second marriage his present wife Cidália Nobre Lopes Mouzinho Guterres, with whom he has three sons.
