Francisco Ramírez Medina (* 1828 in Puerto Rico, † unknown ) was a Puerto Rican freedom fighters.

Life

About his life little is known. He was, however, an important representative of the independence movement. The movement against the Spanish rulers on the island was planned by Ramón Emeterio Betances and Segundo Ruiz Belvis. Ramirez Medina joined the movement, as did Manuel Rojas, Mathias Brugman Mariana Bracetti and the revolutionary cells established.

After the conquest of the city Lares Grito de Lares in the uprising at September 28, 1868 declared Rojas and his men Puerto Rico for the free republic and called Ramirez Medina its first president, while Rojas himself acted as commander of the Liberation Army.

However, the Spaniards were able to knock down within a few days of the uprising. Ramirez Medina was arrested and possibly executed for treason. However, his exact fate is unknown.
