Francisco Ribeiro

Francisco Ribeiro ( born March 15, 1965 in Lisbon, Portugal, † 14 September 2010 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese musician. As co-founder and cellist of the group " Madredeus " he was responsible as a composer and lyricist.

Life

Ribeiro was born in Lisbon. In 1986 he founded together with other the Madredeus group that became known beyond the borders of Portugal and 1994 contributed the soundtrack to the Wim Wenders film Lisbon Story.

In 1997 he left the group and moved to the UK. There he was a member of Stroud Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra Glouchester in the years 2002/2003.2006 he returned to Portugal. In 2009 he published his first and only solo album A juncao do Rem

Ribeiro was involved as a cellist, singer, composer and songwriter on the following albums: Os dias de Madredeus, Existir, O espirito da Paz, Ainda ( soundtrack of Wenders Lisbon Story ). He wrote several songs, such as Os Senhores Guerra and Pregao (O Espirito da Paz ) or A Cidade e os campos ( Ainda, text and music).

With the song Pregao he had in the Azores also a single appearance in the Madredeus documentation.

On September 14, 2010, he died at the age of 45 years from the consequences of a cancer suffering and there was Fatima laid out in the church of Nossa Senhora. He was buried on the Olivais Cemetery in Lisbon.
