Franco Battiato

Franco Battiato ( born March 23, 1945 in Jonia, today Riposto ) is an Italian singer-songwriter, musician, painter ( under the pseudonym Süphan Barzani ), director and non-party politician.

Battiato is one of the outstanding figures of Italian music from the 1970s to today. His music is characterized by a lot of music styles, so that it is not attributable to any style of music firmly. In 1984, he took along with Alice Italy at the Euro Vision Song Contest with the song I treni di Tozeur.

Battiatos music is often very self-willed, with lyrics that often seem to make any sense and so seem a little Dadaist.

His collaboration with the philosopher Manlio Sgalambro has given the texts depth, often with hidden references to works by Emil Cioran, Friedrich Nietzsche and others.

In November 2012 Battiato was appointed by Rosario Crocetta in the regional government of Sicily as a Councillor for Tourism, Sports and Events.
