Franco Corelli

Franco Corelli ( born April 8, 1921 in Ancona, † 29 October 2003 in Milan ) was an Italian opera singer in the vocal range Tenor.

Life

Corelli was born the son of a shipyard worker in Ancona. He studied at the Conservatory of Pesaro and Milan. Corelli was known primarily as Verdi, Puccini and verismo singer. In 1954 he sang for the first time at La Scala. With 55 years Corelli retired in 1976 from the stage. Franco Corelli, who lived in New York for many years, died in 2003 in Milan after a long illness.

Franco Corelli was one of the greatest singers of his time; his radiant tenor voice combined with an attractive appearance. Corelli suffered from severe stage fright, which made ​​it difficult for his performances.
