Francoa sonchifolia

The Francoaceae are a plant family of the order pantograph -like ( Geraniales ). The family includes only two species in two monotypic genera that are native to Chile.

Description

The two species are significantly different in many morphological features.

Vegetative characteristics

There are perennial herbaceous plants. Are formed rhizomes. The aboveground plant parts are glandular hairy or woolly. The alternate, more or less summarized in basal rosette leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The leaf blade is simple and circular or shared. Stipules absent.

Generative features

Are formed terminal, racemose or Rispige inflorescences. There are bracts present.

The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry or strongly zygomorphic with double perianth. The four to five sepals are fused only briefly. There are two or four or rarely five free petals present, which can be nailed. There are two circles, each with four or eight free stamens present, a circle staminodes are converted. The pollen grains have three apertures and are colporat. The two or four ( or five? ) Carpels are fused to an above- permanent, two or vierkammerigen ovary. Each ovary chamber contains 20 to 50 anatrope, bitegmische, crassinucellate ovules.

It is an upright ( or septizidale valvulare ) fruit capsule formed, containing many seeds. The very small seeds contain endosperm and a tiny embryo.

  • Francoa Cav. With the single type (sometimes two to three types specified): Francoa sonchifolia ( Willd.) Cav. ( Syn: Panke sonchifolia Willd. ): It is rich in form and grows in the mountains of central Chile.
