François Borne

François Borne (* 1840in Montpellier; † [ Toulouse ] ) was a French flautist and composer.

Borne was a flutist at the Grand Théâtre of Bordeaux and professor of flute at the Conservatory of Toulouse. Together with the flute maker Djalma Julliot he perfected the key mechanism of the Boehm flute ( E mechanism ).

He composed many works for the flute, including the Fantaisie sur L' Africaine de brilliant Meyerbeer, for flute avec accompagnement de piano ou d' Orchestre (1885 ). His most famous composition is the brilliant Fantaisie for flute et piano motifs from Bizet's opera Carmen.
