François Chabas

François Chabas ( born January 2, 1817 with the Briançon, † May 17, 1882 in Versailles) was a French Egyptologist.

Chabas was initially interested in anthropology, but then turned to the study of the ancient Egyptian language. Chabas was a member of several academies and later President of the Conseil departmental Saône -et -Loire. Between 1876 and 1880 Chabas published the magazine L' Egyptologie.
