François Martin (Pondicherry)

François Martin ( * 1634, † 1706) was the first French Governor General of Pondicherry. As Commissioner of the French Compagnie des Indes Orientale, the French East India Company, he built the acquired in 1672 by an Indian prince fishing despite repeated threats from a strong French base in India. His successor as Governor-General was Pierre Dulivier. A street in Pondicherry was named after him.
