Franconian International School

The Franconian International School ( FIS ) in Erlangen, is an international private school for training the next generation of international employees in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.

History

In the metropolitan region of Nuremberg many international companies and corporations are located, which employ many foreign specialists and managers. This economic region requires a school with an international focus.

Education and Philosophy

Training The curriculum of the Franconian International School is prepared in close cooperation with other international schools and the Bavarian Ministry of Culture. It is tuned to the key international school systems, refers Central American and British education principles, bidding for German children a reasonable basis for their future education. This ensures that the children return after a few years at the FIS back into the school system of their home or can switch to other international schools. The language of instruction at the FIS is English. Children with different linguistic backgrounds are brought by the special class "English as a Second Language " in different stages at the level of their class. From the 6th grade is added Spanish. German is also taught through all grade levels throughout. In addition to the science courses sports, art and music are main focuses. The teaching staff is selected taking into account the requirements of the Bavarian school authorities worldwide.

The school has a nursery (3-5 years), Elementary School (1st - 4th class ) and the Middle and High School (5th - 8th and 9th - 12th grade ). The 10th grade is the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education ), which is recognized in Bavaria, under certain conditions than high school, completed. In the 12th grade then follows the International Baccalaureate (International School ). In parallel, FIS offers a diploma as a degree corresponding to the high school diploma in the United States.

Philosophy Children from all over the world are to receive, regardless of race, gender, religion and nationality equal educational opportunities. The FIS will help them to reach their full intellectual, social and physical potential. This happens through a curriculum that is not based solely on knowledge, but stimulates the children to take their own initiative, their curiosity and creativity awakens and fosters their individual talents. Students and teachers

The school serves approximately 570 students in 2011 from over 40 countries. The German share is permanently about 30%. The faculty is international, with USA, Canada, UK and Australia are the most represented.
