Franex

Franex is a village and formerly independent municipality in the district Broye the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. On 1 January 1992 Franex was incorporated into Murist.

Geography

Franex is located on 582 m above sea level. M., 9 km west-southwest of Payerne (air line) in the Fribourgese exclave Estavayer -le- Lac. The village is located on the left flank of the Petite Glane, below the Tour de la Molière, in Molassehügelland between Lake Neuchâtel and the middle Broyetal, in the north-western Fribourg plateau. The former municipality area was around 1.6 km ². The area included a portion of the middle reaches of the Petite Glane and handed the west across the steep slope of Franex to the edge of the plateau of Murist ( Vursy at 694 m above sea. M. ).

Population

With 46 inhabitants ( 1990) Franex counted before the merger of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. In 1850 the community had 131 inhabitants, 1950, 110 inhabitants. To Franex include some individual farms.

Economy

Franex still lives by agriculture, particularly from agriculture, from dairy farming and cattle breeding.

Traffic

The place is off the major thoroughfares and itself has no connection to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1242 under the name Frasnei. Later, the names Frasnaj ( 1243 ), Franey ( 1343 ), Frane ( 1665) and Franex published (since 1668). The place name is derived from the Latin word Fraxinus (ash).

Since the Middle Ages Franex was under the rule Estavayer. Even the cathedral chapter of Lausanne had land in the village. After Bern 1536 had conquered the Vaud, Franex came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Estavayer was assigned. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Estavayer before it was incorporated in 1848 in the District Broye. Effective as of January 1, 1992 Franex was incorporated into Murist.

Attractions

The village chapel Saint -Nicolas is first mentioned in 1625 and was restored in 1795. It has 13 remarkable painted wooden statues of Christ and the apostles. These are originally from the church of Combremont, but were handed to the crossing of the municipality to the Reformed faith in Franex.
