Frank A. Barrett

Frank Aloysius Barrett ( born November 10, 1892 in Omaha, Nebraska; † 30 May 1962 Cheyenne, Wyoming ) was an American politician ( Republican), who served from 1951 to 1953 as governor of the state of Wyoming and this from 1953 to 1959 in the U.S. Senate represented.

Private life

Barrett attended the public schools, then graduated in 1913 at Creighton University and in 1916 at the Law Department. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1917 and served during the First World War in the Balloon Corps. He held the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge from the Army in 1919, he received his license to practice law and began in Lusk, Wyoming to practice, where he also worked as a rancher. Then he was from 1923 to 1932 District Attorney of the Niobrara County. He also was a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Wyoming. After his tenure in the U.S. Senate, he was General Counsel in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, and from 1959 to 1960 Member of the Supervisory Board of the Commodity Credit Corporation. He died in 1962 in Cheyenne and was buried in the Lusk Cemetery.

Political career

Barrett decided in 1933 to pursue a career in politics when he was elected to the Senate from Wyoming, where he remained until 1935. Later he was elected to the 78th U.S. Congress and reelected to the three succeeding Congresses U.S.. There he worked on 3 January 1943 until his resignation on 31 December 1950. As of January 1951, he held the office of the governor of Wyoming. During his tenure, he promoted the interests of the oil, mining and cattle industry. On January 2, 1953, he resigned from his post to take a job in the U.S. Senate on January 3. After he was defeated in his re-election attempt in 1958, he left his office on January 3, 1959. He made an unsuccessful run again in 1960 for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
