Frank B. Jewett

Frank B. Jewett ( born September 5, 1879 in Pasadena (California ), † November 18, 1949 ) was an American physicist and first president of Bell Laboratories.

In 1898 he graduated from Throop Institute of Technology (now the California Institute of Technology) in 1902 and received his PhD in physics at the University of Chicago. In 1928 he received the Edison Medal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers.

At the foundation of the Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1925 he became its president. From 1940 to 1944, he moved there to the Board of Directors.

In the years 1939-1947 he was president of the National Academy of Sciences. He also served in the National Defense Research Committee.
