Frank B. Morrison

Frank Brenner Morrison ( born May 20, 1905 in Golden, Colorado, † April 19, 2004 in McCook, Nebraska ) was an American politician and 1961-1967 the 32nd Governor of the state of Nebraska.

Early years

After primary school, Frank Morrison attended to 1927, the Kansas State University. He then studied at the University of Nebraska law. There he also made his law degree in 1931. For a short time Morrison was working as a teacher before he opened a law practice in Stockville. In 1934, he was prosecutor in Frontier County. Between 1948 and 1970, Morrison applied for a total of five times unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress. Instead, he was nominated in 1960 by the Democratic Party as a candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election, which he won with 52:48 percent of the vote against Republican John R. Cooper.

Governor of Nebraska

Morrison's term as governor began on 5 January 1961, almost simultaneously with the accession of John F. Kennedy as U.S. President. He was a confidant of both Kennedy and of his successor Lyndon B. Johnson. After he was confirmed in his office each in the years 1962 and 1964, he was able to exercise it until 5 January 1967. During this time, the financial system of the state has been restructured. The income tax for the State of Nebraska (not to be confused with the federal income tax ) has been introduced. The governor gave a study on water protection in order. At that time, a new pension system was introduced for the public service of Nebraska employees. In the education sector, educational television has been part of the curriculum. A constitutional reform of 1962 extended the tenure of the governors of Nebraska from two to four years. However, this regulation only came into force after the elections of 1966.

After the end of his final term Morrison worked for the Agency for International Development in India. In 1971 he was a member of a committee which deliberated on a reform of the judiciary of Nebraska. Between 1971 and 1974 he was legally working for the Douglas County. He then retired to private life. He died in 2004 at the age of almost 99 years. Frank Morrison was married to Maxine Elizabeth Hepp, with whom he had three children.
