Frank Bretschneider

Frank Bretschneider (* 1956 in Obercrinitz ) is a German musician and video artist. He published under his real name and the pseudonym comet.

His publications can be broadly classified as experimental electronic music and include genres such as Clicks & Cuts, ambient and minimal techno.

Life

After studying art Bretschneider began in 1984 with the production of the first pieces of music and formed his first cassette label.

In 1986 he founded together with Torsten Eckhardt and Jan and Ina grief the group AG. Violin. Initially created as an experimental art project, the band became known to a wider audience and received in 1990 a record deal with the label Amiga.

After the dissolution of the band in 1993 Bretschneider produced together with Olaf Bender, who had replaced Torsten Eckhardt 1989. In 1995, both founded in Chemnitz the label Raster Music. In the following years, grid reinforced Music cooperated with the label, also based in Chemnitz noton. Archive for ton and nichtton the musician Carsten Nicolai. In 1999, the two merged to label Raster-Noton. Bretschneider was later moved from the label work, remained Raster-Noton but privately as well as an artist still connected.

Bretschneider published together with Carsten Nicolai, Olaf Bender, Tilo Seidel, Taylor Deupree, Ralph Steinbrüchel and Peter Duimelinks. His works have appeared on labels such as 12k, Mille Plateaux, Quatermass, Raster-Noton, and Mort Aux Vaches Staalplaat.

Frank Bretschneider lives and works in Berlin.
