Frank Carlucci

Frank Charles Carlucci III. (Born 18 October 1930 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Republican Party. Carlucci from 1987 to 1989, the 16th of Defense of the United States. Between 1986 and 1987 he served as National Security Advisor.

The Italian -Americans completed his studies at Princeton University in 1952. From 1954 to 1955 he attended lectures at the Harvard Business School. From 1952 to 1954 he was a member of the United States Navy. From 1956 to 1969 he worked in the American diplomatic service, among other things, he held from 1974 to 1977 the post of U.S. ambassador to Portugal, based in Lisbon. From 1978 to 1981 Carlucci Director of Central Intelligence was ( deputy head of the intelligence service ); after he became deputy defense minister and remained so until 1983.

On November 23, 1987, he joined the Cabinet of President Ronald Reagan to succeed Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger; This post he held until 20 January 1989. His successor Dick Cheney was introduced on March 20 in his office after the John Tower had not been confirmed by the Senate originally nominated by the new President George Bush.

Between 1992 and 2003 Carlucci was Chairman of the private equity firm Carlyle Group.
