Frank Cordell

Frank Cordell ( born June 1, 1918 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, † July 6, 1980 in Hastings, East Sussex ) was a British composer and conductor. He created some musical works for the British cinema of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Among these compositions for films such as The Luxury Captain, We wait in Ashiya, Mosquito bombers attack, Khartoum - uprising on the Nile or Cromwell.

Life and career

Frank Cordell was born in 1918 in Kingston upon Thames. With 17 years of Cordell won a competition in London as a promising jazz pianist. During his time in the Royal Air Force from 1940 to 1946, he acquired his skills as an arranger and conductor, at this time, he worked as musical director of the Air Force radios. Since 1952 Cordell also wrote film music. He composed the music for such films as The Luxury Captain, Rebel, We wait in Ashiya, Khartoum - Rise of the Nile, Mosquito bombers attack, My friend, the otter, Hellboats - Greetings from hell or for the thriller vigilante. In 1971 he was honored for his composition to the history of film director Ken Hughes Cromwell with an Oscar nomination.

Frank Cordell died on July 6, 1980 aged 62 at Hastings in the county of East Sussex. In 1947 he had (later Magda Cordell McHale ) married the artist Magda Cordell Lustigova.
