Frank D. White

Frank Durward White ( June 4, 1933, Texarkana, Texas; † 21 May 2003 in Little Rock, Arkansas ) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party and was from 1981 to 1983 Governor of Arkansas.

Early years and political rise

Frank White graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute and was recorded in 1952 at the U.S. Naval Academy. After he had there his degree in 1956, he became a pilot in the Air Force. There he completed over 1800 hours of flight time as a Captain ( Hauptmann ). After the end of his service he rose in 1961 in the business to life. At first he worked in the brokerage business and since 1973 in the banking industry. Between 1975 and 1977, White was Director of the Economic Development Commission of Arkansas. In 1980 he was nominated by his party as a candidate for the gubernatorial elections. He succeeded in the elections to beat the Democratic incumbent Bill Clinton.

Governor of Arkansas

Frank White's two-year term as governor began on 19 January 1981. White was considerably more conservative set as Winthrop Rockefeller, who had been the last Republican governor of Arkansas before him. He wanted in schools can include in the regular curriculum, the biblical story of creation and they are dealt in addition to the theory of evolution as science. That was rejected by a federal court. When he appointed the conservative ex-governor Orval Faubus appointed head of the scandalous veterans Ministry, which triggered an intraparty crisis. In 1982, he took up for re-election. After the end of his tenure, White worked for an investment firm in Little Rock and was vice president of First Commercial Bank. In 1986, he lost in the gubernatorial elections again against Clinton. In 1998, Governor Mike Huckabee appointed him Commissioner of the Government Bank of Arkansas. Frank White died on 21 May 2003 in Little Rock to a heart attack. He was married twice and had three children.
