Frank Forberger

Frank Forberger ( born March 5, 1943 in Meissen, † September 30, 1998 ) was a rower from the GDR.

Even as a teenager sat Frank Forberger in a rowing boat, for the time being at the helm. Later he rowed himself, first at the BSG unit Meissen, in 1965 he moved to Dresden unit. The coxless four unit of Dresden was in the years to become a legend. From 1966 to 1972 Frank Forberger, Frank Rühle, Dieter Grahn and Dieter Schubert won every major competition. The four rowers were world champions in 1966, European champion in 1967 and Olympic champion in 1968.

1969 ill Frank Rühle. Forberger and Grahn launched at the European Championships in two without and finished second. With the restored Frank Rühle they won in 1970 at the World Championships in 1971 at the European Championships and the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

Frank Forberger died in 1998 of a brain tumor. 1999 his daughter Anna was junior world champion in rowing.
