Frank Gardner (racing driver)

Frank Gardner (born 1 October 1930 in Sydney, † August 29, 2009 in Gold Coast ) was an Australian racing driver.

Frank Gardner began his career as a motorcyclist in dirt track race at Bathurst and became known in the 1960s as Formula 1, touring and sports car racing driver. When the Porsche works driver in 1969 at the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring the start refused the new Porsche 917, Gardner and David Piper stepped in and brought the then almost drivable Porsche ( only changes to the chassis made ​​the 917 to a peak car) daring to seventh in the overall standings. Gardner won three times the British Touring Car Championship. 1967 and 1968 he drove it for Ford and 1973 Chevrolet.

1971 and 1972 he won the overall title of the Formula 5000 Championship and 1977 Australian Touring Car Champion.

Less successful was his Formula 1 career. Between 1964 and 1968 he drove sporadically in a Brabham eight races for the World Cup, but never placed in the points.
