Frank Glaw

Rainer Frank Glaw ( born March 22, 1966 in Dusseldorf ) is a German herpetologist. Glaw studied biology in 1987 in Cologne and graduated with a diploma. He then went to the University of Bonn, where he received his doctorate in 1989 with the work of studies on bio-acoustics, systematics, biodiversity and biogeography of Malagasy anurans of the Anura of Madagascar. Since 1997 he has been curator at the Zoological State Collection Munich. Glaws focus was both while studying and after his dissertation on the herpetofauna of Madagascar. Since the late 1980s, he worked closely with Miguel Vences. Together they wrote in 1992 A Field Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of Madagascar, a standard work for the amphibians and reptiles of Madagascar, the - has been translated into Malagasy and is available free on the Internet - funded by a World Bank program. Meanwhile, it is published in its third edition.

Glaw (mostly together with Vences ) and author of over 100 original descriptions of Malagasy taxa, such as the chameleon Brookesia micra, the Engmaulfroschs Stumpffia pygmaea and the fish family Anchariidae.
