Frank Hereford

Frank Hereford (* July 4, 1825 in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia; † December 21, 1891 in Union, West Virginia ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), of the state of West Virginia in both houses of the U.S. Congress represented.

After the visit to the preparatory school for the study of Frank Hereford graduated in 1845 at the McKendree University in Lebanon (Illinois ). He studied law, was admitted to the bar and began to practice as a lawyer. In 1849 he moved to California, where until 1857 he worked as a district attorney in Sacramento County in 1855.

After another move to West Virginia Hereford began his political career. He was in 1870 elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he represented the third congressional district of his state of 4 March 1871 to 31 January 1877. He served, among others, as Chairman of the Trade Committee.

On January 26, 1877, he was chosen as successor to the late Allen T. Caperton of West Virginia's representatives in the U.S. Senate; the vacant space had previously occupied Samuel Price interim basis. Hereford remained until March 3, 1881 in the Senate and during this time was Chairman of the Mining Committee. He then worked again as a lawyer and died in 1891.
