Frank Hotaling
Frank Hotaling ( born April 4, 1900 as John Francis Hotaling in New York, United States, † April 13, 1977 in Woodland Hills ) was an American art director and Western specialist.
Life
John Francis ' Frank ' Hotaling had initially worked as a draftsman and was pushed as a bit player to the cinema in 1923. In the following years he appeared as a double for some stars in front of the camera, including Clark Gable in " gold fever " ( Call of the Wild, 1935). He then worked as a draftsman in various facilities departments.
In 1944 he began his work as a designer for film sets. The western genre was Hotalings preferred area of work. In addition to a plethora of B- movies John Hotaling endowed also some top performances by John Ford. For his performance to the winner, one of the few non - Western in Fords and Hotalings career, production designer received an Oscar nomination.
