Ifield lived with his family first eight years in the UK, then wandered the Ifields 1946 to Australia and settled in Dural, north-west of Sydney down. Frank grew up in a musically dedicated family. His grandfather was a singer and dancer in a minstrel show. His parents gave him the 11th birthday a ukulele, as a 12- year-old he got from his grandfather a guitar as a Christmas gift. Ifield discovered his love for country music, and the age of 13, he joined with country songs in the amateur show an Australian radio station. Followed by appearances in several public music events. In 1955 he recorded his first single with the songs Did You See My Daddy Over There / There's a Love Knot in My Lariat (Catalog G25400 ) at the Australian record label Regal Zonophone. His musical career was interrupted in 1957 by military service, then he had trouble to get back into show business. Only through appearances on television shows, his name was known again. Another career boost in 1959 ushered in by the change to the Columbia label, where in Australia to 1967 27 singles were released.

His manager Peter Gormely prepared in late 1959 with an appearance at the London Palladium Ifields before returning to the UK. This was also encouraged by the fact that the Columbia label was also present there. After a tour through various TV shows Norrie Paramor Ifields became the new manager, and Columbia UK brought in early 1960 Ifields first single Lucky Devil / Nobody Else But You (No. 4399 ) out. The title Lucky Devil immediately found inclusion in the British music charts, where it reached the best quotation with rank 22. It then took until 1962 before Ifield came to his first big record success. With Yodel Song I Remember You, which sold millions of copies, he made his international breakthrough at the same time. The title came not only in the UK at # 1, but also in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. In South Africa, the song went to # 2 in Canada on the 4th Place. I Remember You also found in the United States to observe where it Billboard best -listed with space 5. It was also the first Ifield publication on the U.S. plate market, released by the record label Vee -Jay, which brought to 1963 Ifield six singles on the U.S. market. Later took over Capitol Records (1963-1965) and Hickory (1966-1970) the distribution of Ifield plates in the States. Less successful was with Ifield I Remember You in Germany. The title was released by the German branch of Columbia in October 1962 under catalog number 22326, but peaked at music market only the 39th place. On the back of the plate Ifield sang the German title so easily learns to yodel, a cover version of his song She Taught Me How to Yodel.

In the UK Ifield stormed on the charts. Already the 1962 succession titles Lovesick Blues was a number 1 hit again. 1963 reached the title The Wayward Wind and I'm Confessin ' also the top position. Equally successful was his first in 1962 brought out in the UK LP I'll Remember You. Until 1966 Ifield was regularly represented in the UK charts, but were limited after 1963 success on the UK. His last Top 50 hit was Call Her Your Sweetheart in 1966. During the same year Ifield took the occasion of his contract with the U.S. record company Hickory at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee and received honorary citizenship of the State of Tennessee.

As 1969 Ifields recording contract with the British Columbia had expired, he published in 1969, two singles with Decca Records. In 1970 he founded with Frank Ifield Records ( FIR) own label. In 1980, he was welcomed into the Guinness Book Of Records, which is listed in the top 100 of all time for him 158 weeks on the UK pop charts and No. 24. In 1982, his father died of cancer in Australia and Ifields marriage broke up after 17 years, the stress triggered a severe pneumonia, as a result he had to undergo lung surgery. Only after a year he was able to appearances, he has appeared in various radio and television shows and organized tours back in the UK and Europe. In 1991, he returned as " Frank Ifield featuring The Backroom Boys" with the re-recording of his 1962 success She Taught Me How to Yodel again back in the UK charts, where the title number 40 reached.
