Frank Klawonn

Frank Klawonn ( born March 22, 1966 in Schwedt / Oder ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic. Klawonn 1988 Olympic champion in the four with coxswain.

Klawonn rowed for the SG Dynamo Potsdam coach Bernd Landvoigt. 1984 Klawonn had won the junior world title in coxless pairs. In 1986 he was appointed to the quite successful four with coxswain in the adult area. In the occupation Karsten Schmeling, Bernd Niesecke, Bernd calibration Root, Frank Klawonn and Hendrik heron boat succeeded in winning the East German championship in 1986 and 1988. The boat won at the World Championships in 1986 in Nottingham and in Copenhagen in 1987. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Potsdamer foursome won with nearly three seconds ahead of the boat from Romania the gold medal. 1989 Klawonn won again in the GDR championship in four. 1990 Thoralf Peters, Klawonn and helmsman Hendrik Reiher last GDR champion in pairs with coxswain, 1991, the three won the title at the first all-German championship after the turn. For his Olympic victory in 1988, he was as well as for winning the world title in 1986 with the Patriotic Order of Merit awarded in gold.

Klawonn moved to the turn of the sports studies for Finance and graduated with a degree in Finance, he is a civil servant in Potsdam.
