Frank R. Gooding

Frank Robert Gooding ( born September 16, 1859 in Tiverton, England, † June 24, 1928 in Gooding, Idaho ) was an American politician and 1905-1909 Governor of the State of Idaho. Between 1921 and 1928 he represented his state in the U.S. Senate.

Early years and political rise

In 1867 Frank Gooding came with his parents from England to the United States. The family first settled near Paw Paw, Michigan. There, Frank attended the public schools. In 1877 he moved to Shasta in California. He worked both in agriculture and in mining. In 1881 he moved to Ketchum, where he acted with firewood and charcoal. After another move in 1888, he came into tonight Gooding, which was later named after him. There he became a successful sheep farmer.

Gooding was a member of the Republican Party. In 1896 he was chairman of the party in Lincoln County. Then he spent four years as chairman of the Republican Party in Idaho. Between 1900 and 1904 he was a member and President of the State Senate. In 1904 he was elected governor of his state.

Governor and Senator
