Frank Small, Jr.

Frank Small, Jr. ( born July 15, 1896 in Temple Hills, Prince George's County, Maryland, † October 24, 1973 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1953 and 1955 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Frank Small attended the public schools of his home and was then in the years 1914 and 1915 technical training at the National Automobile College. In the following years he ran some farms. He was also active in the banking industry and in the automotive business. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1927 and 1928 he sat in the House of Maryland. Between 1930 and 1934 he was a member of the District Council; 1934 to 1942 he was a member of the State Board of Republicans in Maryland. He spent four years as chairman of the party at the state level. Between 1937 and 1952, Small was also a member of the Racing Commission of Maryland; since 1951, he served as its chairman. From 1928 to 1957 he also served as President of the Clinton Bank in Clinton. In the years 1940, 1944 and 1956, he participated as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions relevant.

In the congressional elections of 1952, Small was selected in the fifth electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Lansdale Sasscer on January 3, 1953. Since he has not been confirmed in 1954, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1955. This was determined by the events of the Cold War and the beginning of the civil rights movement.

From 1954 to 1973 Small worked in the real estate industry. From 1955 to 1957 he was State Representative for motor vehicles. He was also vice president of the company, Equitable Trust Co. of Baltimore. Frank Small died on October 24, 1973 in Washington, and was buried in Clinton.
