Frank Smith (rugby union)

Francis Bede Smith ( born February 28, 1886 in Wellington, New South Wales, † 1954 ) was an Australian rugby union player. The inner three quarters of 1908 with the Australian selection, the Wallabies, Olympic champion.

His cousin Mac Smith was also a selection of players from Australia and New South Wales. Smith started with the rugby at All Saints College in Bathurst and later at The King's School in Parramatta, where he made an excellent Dreiviertelduo with his cousin Mac. His club later became the Waratahs Club in Orange City. In 1904 he began his Test career as a player in the selection of New South Wales, the Waratahs, for a total of eighteen times he was employed until 1908. 1905 to 1909 he was also in the squad of the Australian selection. In addition to four international matches - all against the New Zealand All Blacks in 1904 and 1907 - he was also part of the Wallabies squad on their first tour to Europe in 1908 /09. On this tour, he missed the only two matches, but was used in the match against the county selection from Cornwall, which decided the only game of the Olympic rugby competition of the Olympic victory.

After returning to Australia, Smith was not one of the members of the team who ran to the rugby league code, but remained loyal to the Union. Smith was inducted into the Sporting Hall of Fame of the City of Orange.
