Frank Swaelen
Frank Swaelen ( born March 23, 1930 in Antwerp, † December 23, 2007 ibid ) was a Belgian politician.
Career
Swaelen studied law at the Catholic University of Leuven. He was for the Christelijke Volkspartij (CVP ) Member of the Chamber of Deputies in 1968. From 1971 to 1988 he was mayor in Hove. In 1980 he became minister of defense, but in 1981 he put this resigned to become chairman of the later renamed CD & V CVP. This office he held until 1988. From 1985 until his retirement from active politics in 1999, he was a senator, of which 1988 to 1999 President of the Senate.
