Frank Verlaat

Frank Verlaat ( born March 5, 1968 in Haarlem ) is a former Dutch football player.

Career

Verlaat began his career as a youth player at DYT Haarlem in his homeland. From his first club Ajax Amsterdam, he moved to Lausanne-Sports in the first Swiss league.

From the Confederation went his way further west to France for AJ Auxerre. From there, he moved in 1995 to VfB Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga. His greatest successes with the Stuttgart were winning the DFB Cup in 1997 and reaching the final in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1998, but which lost its team with 0-1 against Chelsea. As early as 1987 he was in the Cup Winners' Cup with Ajax Amsterdam finals and won the Cup by 1-0 on the first FC Locomotive Leipzig.

After four years in Germany of 186 cm defender was back in 1999 in his home. He stood again for one season at the traditional club Ajax Amsterdam under contract before he again joined the Bundesliga in 2000 to the Hanseatic Bremen. With Werder Bremen, he was an integral part of the defense.

In 2003, he received an offer from Frank Stronach, which led him to Austria for FK Austria Wien. After a year he was awarded the SK Sturm Graz and bought in later episode. With end of season 2006/ 07 Verlaat ended after 87 league games and three goals for the Grazer his active career as a football player. His last professional game, he completed on 17 May 2007 in a 1-0 home win in the last official Graz Derby.

Verlaat is married, has two children ( Jesper and Bibi Verlaat ) and lives with his family in Portugal, Algarve. Verlaat speaks fluent Dutch, German, French and English.
