Frank Wartenberg

Frank Wartenberg (* May 29, 1955 in Bülzig ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - at the Olympic Games in 1976 won the bronze medal in the long jump.

Life

It was established in 1973 European Junior Champion. The following year he was awarded the European junior record of 8.01 meters DDR indoor champion. At the European Indoor Championships in 1974, he reached eighth place. Even outdoors, he jumped European Junior record this year and was at the European Championships in Rome twelfth.

1976 Wartenbergs was successful year. He was East German champion and won at the Olympic Games in Montreal, the bronze ( 7.81 - invalid - invalid -8, 02 m -7 ,84 - invalid). He also jumped 8.18 meters his personal best. In 1977, he was fifth in each of the European Indoor Championships and the first World Cup in Dusseldorf. Due to a cartilage injury he had to end his career just before the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Frank Wartenberg started for the SC Chemie Halle and trained Siegfried, Adj In his playing days, he was 1.86 m tall and weighed 76 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents to the state doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Wartenberg.

In 1977 he married the middle distance runner Christiane Stoll, under the name Wartenberg Olympic silver medalist in the 1500 meter run in 1980. After the end of his athletic career of qualified sports teachers worked as deputy DTSB county chairman in Wittenberg, and after the end of the GDR, he worked as a clerk in the municipality of Wittenberg. He lives with his family in Bülzig.
