Team History

The roots of the team can be traced back to a team founded in 1899, the Frankford Athletic Association. After the end of the club members of the team in 1909 founded a Loyola Athletic Club team called, in 1912 renamed to Frankfurt Athletic Association. In the early 1920s, the team became one of the league 's best independent team. After 1920 and 1921, the final game to the city championship of Philadelphia was still lost, one was in 1922 city champion. In friendly games against NFL teams they lost in the years 1922 and 1923 only two games in six wins and a draw.

Therefore, the team was taken to playing time in 1924 in the NFL. They were the first team in the NFL, which was located outside of the Midwest, and thus represented the first step in the spread of the NFL to the East Coast of the USA dar. Already in their first season were the Yellowjackets with eleven most games of all NFL teams win, but they came because of the much less games played their competition only the third-best winning rate by the Cleveland Bulldogs and the Chicago Bears, which decided the championship.

For season 1925, the team leader committed multiple NFL champion Guy Chamberlin as player-coach. In the first ten games then also get nine wins, after many injury- related losses in the second half of the season - among other things, responsible for a 0:49 - were defeated by the Pottsville Maroons - but despite turn the most wins the championship can not be won.

Finally succeeded in 1926, the Championship after 14 wins in only one game was lost. After the championship Chamberlin left the team and with him went many service providers, so that the club the following season in the lower mid -placed. A rather inconspicuous players this season was Ignacio Molinet, has become the first player in the NFL with Latin American - was ancestry - more specifically Cuban.

In 1928, the young team under the leadership Bull Behmans had so far recorded that you could play again for the title. Again, the team with the most wins, one again because of the more completed and also lost games not master, but behind the Providence Steam Roller was second.

In subsequent years, the viewership declined - probably because of the onset of the Great Depression - and on, and the team could not build on the earlier successes under the leadership of new coach players Bull Behmann; 1930 tried the club leadership to consolidate through a merger of the teams with the Minneapolis Red Jackets the situation, but as their home stadium, the Yellow Jacket Field burned down in 1931, the franchise could no longer hold, and went in the fall of 1931 in bankruptcy.

Two years later bought the business on fallow license and founded the Philadelphia Eagles, which are sometimes mistaken for the continuation of the Yellowjackets.
