Frankie Genaro

Frankie Genaro ( born August 26, 1901 as Frank DiGennara in New York City; † December 27, 1966 in Staten Iceland, New York City ) was an American boxer, the gold medal in the flyweight fetched at the Olympic Games 1920.

Life

Genaro took at the 1920 Summer Olympics gold medal in the weight class flyweight after he won from France and finally against Anders Pedersen from Denmark against Einar Nilsen from Norway, Jean Rampignon and Charles Albert. In the same year he became a professional athlete and won two fights against Charlie Phil Rosenberg and Pancho Villa. In 1923 he won with another win against Villa and against Bud Taylor the American title of his weight class. This title he lost in 1925 after he lost a battle against Fidel LaBarba.

In 1928, he won the title of the NBA (now World Boxing Association ), but these lost in his first defense fight against Emile Pladner again. In a rematch a month later, he won against Pladner and was thus able to win back the title. He was subsequently able to successfully defend the title against Ernie Jarvis, Yvon Belanger Trevidic and again. Then he kicked Midget Wolgast, this fight ended in a draw. Genaro then successfully defended his title against Victor Ferrand, Jackie Harmon and Valentin Angelmann. He lost him again until 1931, after battling Victor Perez by knockout lost.

After his defeat he could not win a title more and finally resigned in 1934. 1998 Genaro was inducted into the boxing hall of fame.
