Franklin and Armfield Office

The Franklin and Armfield Office is a historic building in Alexandria, Virginia in the United States.

1828 founded the slave trader Isaac Franklin and John Armfield is a business, which was considered one of the largest and most successful slave- trading companies of that time. During the business successful periods in the 1830s 1000-1200 slaves were annually sold and transported from Alexandria ( Virginia), among others, to New Orleans. 1836 the business was closed and sold. The building served as a consequence, during the American Civil War, the troops of the Northern States as a prison for captured soldiers of the Confederate States, and from 1878 to 1885 as a hospital. In 1978, the Franklin and Armfield Office as a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been one of the 119 historic sites in Virginia.
