Franklin County (Indiana)

Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Brookville.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Indiana, on the east by Ohio and has an area of 1014 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fayette County, Union County, Butler County and Hamilton County, Ohio, Dearborn County, Ripley County, Decatur County and Rush County.

History

Franklin County was formed on November 27, 1810 from parts of Clark County, of Dearborn County and Jefferson County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin, a North American publisher, statesman, writer, scientist, inventor, natural philosopher and Freemason.

In Rockdale is the covered historic Snow Hill Covered Bridge. The bridge was taken from the National Register of Historic Places on March 3, 1995 with the number 95,000,208.
